THE TRILOGY – M.E.N.

If you are ever asked; “Master, what must I do to enjoy a fruitful, healthy life?” Without missing a beat, respond; “do the TRILOGY”. The person asks; “how do you mean?”. Reply; “Do MEN”.

I can imagine the person will come up with a line like; “You are joking, right?” Take it further and imagine you just told that to someone in the ‘Religious life‘. Sorry, don’t mind me, my imagination ever runs wild…

To live a long, fruitful life in good health of mind and body, you must take at least two tabs of M.E.N. in a week. You must engage in the Massage, Exercise and Nutrition Trilogy.

I did not intend to pull a prank on you, so kamdan and come back here! will you?

MASSAGE (M)

Massage is the manipulation of soft tissues in the body. The purpose of massage is generally for the treatment of body stress or pain

Soft tissue refers to tissues that connect, support, or surround other structures and organs of the body. Soft tissue includes muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, nerves, fibrous tissues, fat, blood vessels, and synovial membranes.

Do you have Soft tissues in your body? Of course! You do! It’s the reason you can even read and enjoy what you are reading here.

Listen here! Those soft tissues need to be manipulated. This, right here is the tricky part, because Massage is the manipulation of the soft tissues, you have to be sure that the person giving you the massage understands what soft tissues mean, while Massage serves beneficial health purposes, if wrongly done, it can pose severe danger and health risks.

CASE 1 SCENARIO

My Aunt; let’s call her Aunty Bee. She is a very energetic and beautiful 67-year old who is currently studying for her Bar examinations at one of the Law Schools in Nigeria. My Aunt is cuter than yours!

So, one day I visited Aunt Bee, I noticed she wasn’t her usual bubbly self.

  • Me: Aunty, what’s wrong?
  • Aunty Bee: I have had a headache for five days now
  • Impactada!!! Me: What have you taken?
  • Aunty Bee: Pain killer, Paracetamol
  • Me: Aunty, you have “Tension Headache”, no amount of Pain killers can resolve that. Do you have any aroma-therapeutic oil? Let me give you a head massage.

****Aunt goes on to bring the oil, it had a Eucalyptus base, All the better! **** I proceeded to carefully manipulate and ease the tensed nerves in Aunt’s head, then gave Aunt a proper scalp massage. After which, I took Aunt through nasofacial exercises giving prominence to the jawline.

LOL. You literally went with me through Aunt’s massage. Long story short, two days later, Aunt called to thank me. Impactada! Aunt has never called me for me. lol and just to thank me? I felt so proud.

Aunt went on from there to tell everyone how good my massages were and some of them even reached me to book me. lol. Have I gone to meet any of them? No. Why? First, I have been so busy. Second, terms of agreement have not been reached, if you know what I mean. #moolahgame

Try to get a massage ever so often, it will save you lot of hospital time and bills too. Forget Aromatic oils, if you have no access to that, use locally prepared shea butter (ori). For further reading, https://www.massagetherapyreference.com/effects-of-massage-therapy/

EXERCISE (E)

For some of us, Exercise means

a “gym day”; at the numerous gadgets and appliances and relieving those tensed nerves afterwards in a “whirlpool a.k.a. Jacuzzi”. For some others, it may mean; rock climbing or mountain-climbing, Paddling, horse-back riding, golfing, etc.

Beht, zay tha troot and leh dee deveel be ashamed, henytaim, somebody teh you, eggzesais, teh me ju hah nut tinking of jogging and sit-up?

(But say the truth and let the devil be ashamed; anytime somebody mentions the word; “exercise” beside you, tell me you are not thinking of jogging and sit-ups?!!! LOOOOL, na now you come.

Today; behold, I tell you most solemnly, unless you exercise often, you will not lead a healthy life.

Exercise is any bodily activity that enhances or maintains physical fitness and overall health and wellness. It is performed for various reasons, to aid growth and improve strength, prevent aging, develop muscles and the cardiovascular system, hone athletic skills, for weight loss or maintenance, improving health and also for enjoyment.

The extent to which you exercise should be determined (among others) by;

  • age
  • sex (Gender)
  • Living Conditions
  • Predominant Health conditions

Please make some consultations and do your research before determining the kinds and forms of exercise best for you.

Case 2 Scenario

I used to be strongly asthmatic as a Child and teenager; my Father cured me with some concoction made from honey and the juice extracted from some local seeds from our native Home town in Oye Local Government, Ekiti State, Nigeria.

Owing to this, I do not exert myself when I exercise. I do a round of sit-ups, squats, lift weights (locally made from concrete and iron. ahahah) and a series of dances and Stretches. I call the last two dancexercise and stretchexercise because they are targeted towards specific parts of my body.

Stretchexercise for me is aimed not just at stretching my body but also my mind. If I wait to go to the gym to exercise, I will soon be a Panting, overweight person (not that being overweight is bad, it just cannot suit my active lifestyle. Are overweight people inactive? I will never know because I never have been. Please miss me with your sentiments.)

That’s mine. How do you exercise? Do you have any conditions that limit you from partaking in strenuous exercises?

Save physical exercises; how about mental? Spiritual? Psychological? and Psychomental exercises?

Keep your health in check. Exercise…

NUTRITION (N)

Proper nutrition is as important to health as exercise. When exercising, it becomes even more important to have a good diet to ensure that the body has the correct ratio of macronutrients while providing ample micronutrients, in order to aid the body with the recovery process following strenuous exercise.

While it’s important to eat food as we know it, it is most important to eat Nutritious food.

Case 3 Scenario

Earlier in the year, I got addicted to eating fufu, draw soup, goat meat and peppersoup and a choice drink; a staple in South-eastern Nigeria. (Igbo Kwenu! kwesi onu o lol).

I used to buy this local delicacy (everyday) at a buka for just three hundred and fifty naira (about $1 if I sent someone) or five hundred naira (about $1.50) if I go there myself or send someone the owner knows is associated with me. My! My! It was so delicious.

Lol. I was “chopping the life of my head” or so I thought. I was enjoining maisef! I thought I was living my best life, having all of these for such a small amount until the repercussion of my high calorie diet kicked in!

Two months on; my belly was flabby, my arms were huge! I was reaping the fruit of my cheap high calorie diet consumption.

By June 2019, I had had enough! I was a size 12 from a size 8 in December! Long story short!

Today, I look at food in this way; Carbohydrates, Vitamins, Proteins, Fats, Mineral Salts, and water etc. You get my point! I scrutinize every meal before consumption.

Balanced diet is the way to go..

CONCLUSION

To live and maintain a healthy lifestyle, I recommend two doses of M.E.N. (Massage, Exercise and Nutrition) daily. Do this and you will be able to lead a healthy lifestyle beginning today.

Welcome to the beginning of tomorrow…
