ENVY

it was the devil’s envy that brought death into the world (Wisdom 2:24)

Daily Reading for Tuesday November 12, 2019:

Reading 1, Wisdom 2:23–3:9
Responsorial Psalm, Psalms 34:2-3, 16-17, 18-19
Gospel, Luke 17:7-10

What is death? Death is the end of life.

Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life

1 John 5:12

What do these two texts tell us? If death is the end of life and whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. These mean that there is such thing as Physical death and another as Spiritual death. So, one may;

  • die physically, where all his life actions- MR NIGER (Movement Respiration Nutrition Irritability Growth Excretion Reproduction ) come to an end,
  • one may die as a result of disconnection from the source of life; Jesus Christ

it was the devil’s envy that brought death into the world

The Devil, as many of us know, in Christian mythology; is Lucifer; the fallen Angel. What made Lucifer fall? He wanted to be God, he was not contented with just being a very powerful angel, He wanted to be God and he was ready to do anything for it. So, St. Michael summoned the other Angels and war broke out in heaven, he defeated the Devil and drove him out of heaven. Where do you think the Devil was driven to?

Funny? not funny? The Devil was driven to earth. At one corner of my mind, I am wondering where the Devil’s stronghold is on this earth. Wait, I will tell you.

The stronghold of the Devil is in the heart of all envious people. Because envy will cause one to contravene all the laws of God; “love of God and love of neighbour”. Envy can cause one to break all the laws of God without batting an eyelid.

Now, I will tell you what Envy is; Envy is when you feel so angry or unsatisfied because someone has something you want, up to the point of wishing the person does not have it.

This Yoruba folklore song depicts what envy is; “Bi o ba, o pa, bi o ba, o bu lese”. This literally translates to; “If you meet him, kill him, if you ‘miss him’, break his leg.

Envy creates a “bi o ba o pa, bi o ba, o bu lese” situation. You run after someone and are after their ruin because you feel they are the cause of your “misfortune”.

Envy directly contravenes the law of Love which is God. If you are envious, you do not have Love. When you lack love, you cut ties with Jesus and join hands with the grand father of envy; devil bobo or baby.

The next time you are about to;

  • tear someone down through gossip, backbiting and tales-spinning.
  • assassinate either the person or their character
  • ‘cast an evil eye’ on someone because of what they have!

Remember that you are on a downward spin

Look, no one is the cause of your misfortune, please, look elsewhere; like inside of you. From deep down of you, you can create and recreate, you can reshape your destiny. The goal is to compete with the person you were yesterday and not with anyone else. When you are constantly your own ‘goals’, no one will be able to defeat you!

You are the Master of your Destiny
